Smile Nigeria

Smile Nigeria Program

Objective

To provide restorative, preventive, and emergency dental care to underserved school aged children in Nigeria. Provide education on oral health and disease prevention, including emphasis on the oral manifestations of many diseases.

Methods

We will establish partnerships with hospitals, dental clinics, and supporting businesses in Nigeria.

Creating a fund for children to receive adequate ongoing dental care.  Fund will support emergency dental care, yearly cleanings and restorative needs for children. Education and awareness will focus on school-aged children.

Accumulate data of current dental caries prevalence in Abuja and Lagos. We eventually aim to focus care on rural regions where access to dental care may not be available.  Data will serve as a template that instructs formal oral hygiene instruction tailored to a specific region.

Oral hygiene Instructions, prophylaxis will be done one site.  Patients needing follow up care will be referred to Obala Foundation  partner dentist, who will be able to provide care (extraction/ restorations) at subsidized or waived costs.

One and three year follow up data will be collected to assess outcomes and impact.
